Consumers can now say goodbye to unpleasant surprises when purchasing flight tickets. Airlines are required to disclose a detailed breakdown of airfare at the point of payment, ensuring that you are fully aware of the charges before completing your purchase. The breakdown must include the following details: –
⦁ Base fare (includes all charges payable to the airline)
⦁ Government imposed taxes and fees
⦁ Fees and charges prescribed under any written law
⦁ Fuel surcharge
⦁ Optional services purchased by a consumer on an opt-in basis and
⦁ Other fees and charges as determined by the Commission to be imposed on consumers by airlines. (e.g., carbon fee)
This ensures transparency for consumers by clearly outlining the full amount you are required to pay before the ticket is issued. Hidden charges, such as card payment fees or administrative charges, are prohibited under the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code.
