When purchasing a flight ticket, most of us reach to a point where we end up contemplating if travel insurance is necessary before we embark on a journey.
While travel insurance is important to protect travellers against a range of unforeseen events, it is important to note that all airline travellers are protected under the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code (MACPC) even if travel insurance has not been purchased.
Is travel insurance necessary?
If a traveller has purchased travel insurance, and the compensation offered by the airline is insufficient to cover the losses, traveller can claim the additional losses from his insurance provider, subject to the terms and conditions of the insurance policy and the outcome of the investigation.
Travel insurance can also close the gaps that the airline and the MACPC don’t cover through the entire travel period, such as accidents, illness, hospitalisation, or in extreme conditions, emergency medical transportation to the passenger’s home country.
